"Four Foot Seven and This Side of Heaven"
Eighty eight years of history.
A memoir by Gertie Pierce Boyd, as told to Tina Pabst

I had the pleasure of meeting many times with Gertie Pierce Boyd to write of some of her memories and achievements for our local paper. This busy lady is eighty eight years young! She has a warm smile, sparkling blue eyes, and a quick sense of humor. Her strong faith -"living with the Lord every day," has seen her through many trials and tribulations. She has led a remarkable life, not of fame and fortune, but one of adhering to old fashioned values such as hard work and determination.

Gertie Boyd Pierce

She describes herself as "four foot seven and this side of Heaven." Quickly realizing all of her fascinating history could not be contained in one article, we began talking of a book. It's been a privilege to have Gertie confide in me and tell of some of her most personal and painful moments, as well as some of her happiest. I firmly believe everyone's life is unique and we all have a story to tell. There are literally thousands of these personal histories waiting to be told. I often read an obituary and think of how interesting it would have been to speak with that person.
